Here is the back side of the door:

Here is a small bit of peeling paint:

Here is a bucket of lead paint chips... breakfast anyone?

Here is what I accomplished today:

A closer look at the wood graining:

My goal is to be better at identifying wood types... it looks like pine to me. Am I wrong?
We are going to repaint it a yet-to-be-determined color, as it is no condition to be stained (there are quite a few dings and dents on the edges of the door, and a few on the faces.) Maybe a nice deep muted blue would be nice... or a nice dark sagey green.

Wow, lots of fun!! I always find myself wondering why the PO ended up choosing the color they painted...
Nice door. It looks similar to my front door which I recently tried the 'dark sagey green' on. If you do chose that color, make sure it isn't too yellow or you'll get a baby-poop green like I did! Check my blog and you'll see. It's alright, just not what I had hoped for.
I'm moving in 7 days so it isn't worth repainting!
How exciting :) My across-the-street neighbors have a purple door. I never would have thought purple was a good door color, but it looks great.
What a great door! Stripping it looks like a ton of work, but it will make a huge difference. I love the idea of the sagey green.
This is good inspiration for me. I need to do this to my side door, and the storm doors on the front entrance and patio entrance.
I'm totally doing it soon!
It's looking great! I'm a big fan of red doors myself...
Love your door. I have been looking for a salvaged craftsman style door for a while now...I am jealous.
What a beautiful door! That's going to look fantastic when you're finished.
Looking good!
Are you sure it wouldn't look good stained (warts and all)? You know those just add character.
I do have a handy-dandy little gadget you can make that strips paint easily. Let me know if your interested.
Also, could you e-mail me? I have a question about your blog set-up.

Nate~ I think it's the same door! How funny! Your door doesn't look that bad through the monitor...
Larry~ I'd love to see your stripping tool (as long as it's not a pole...) Just kidding. I'll email you.
Blue, blue for luck! It works for the Dutch, and I think some parts of the Carribean. Your house would look so sweet with a lovely blue door
