Sorry for the late post; I'm really sick and had family in town this weekend. What have you all been up to?
Despite the nagging cough, fever, and sniffles, I have double/tripled paned some back windows with plastic, and laid plans for sealing around the windows on the exterior, thanks to your wonderful suggestions about foam and caulk. I'm also gathering fabric for thick curtains and window insulators, and digging out the old draft dodgers. I've also dusted off the programmable thermostat we installed a few years ago, and made sure that the batteries were fresh, and that the program was sufficient for this year's schedule.

We installed our new dishwasher and discovered a leak in the drain hose because of testing it out. We went with a double drawer dishwasher as there are just two of us and hate washing a half empty load or waiting so long for it to be full.
Not using the dishwasher yet and won't be until we fix the leak... thankfully we installed it (because it was the best place to put it cleaning up for the painters to come in this week) and tested before installing the new floors!
I will start "leak proofing" soon.It is starting to get a little chilly here in Wisconsin.Last year i put thick plastic on windows and I will try to do a better job this year!!! I did caulk a large gap on our front porch when we installed our porch door!!!
I'm looking forward to our first winter with our new windows. The old ones were repulsive aluminum frames with mere strips of glass that needed replacing maybe 30 years ago. Yay! No more freezing through winter!
Feel better soon! I hope all the shrink wrap works- I'm thinking about doing the same in a few weeks on our upstairs windows...
We put in a new thermostat yesterday, and hung some insulation in or basement. In the next couple of weeks, we're going to get some insulation blown into the attic, as well as caulk around some windows. Luckily, winter is a few months away in NC.
