"I'm With the Acme Window Co., and I Just HAPPENED to be in the Neighborhood..."

"... but I'm not selling anything. Are you the homeowner?"

"Yes"

"Well, we're talking with homeowners of houses with older windows
(looks at my decrepit and paint peeling windows) about our upcoming special on...."

"No thanks. I'm restoring them this summer."

"Oh. Ok then."

That was easy.

Hahaha! That WAS easy. The salesperson's right--he (or she) won't be selling anything with that lack of persistence!

That's the oldest trick in the salesperson book- that guy was a screener- folks who go around trying to find set-ups- folks who show an interest in their windows. You did good- showed no interest at all.You definitely are not on his list!

Heh heh.

We seem to be getting more of these kinds of inquiries--I've even had people get out of the car when they see me working on something outside to hand me a flier.

The latest issue of American Bungalow has an interesting article on restoration of windows (and a bit about the history of those horrid replacements.)
