I've Been Tagged...
and tagged and tagged!
Great minds think alike... Fred at One Project Closer, Christine at Front Porch Indiana, Jen of Dogs and Jen, D. at Re:HABitat, and Kim at Four Bed, Two Baths all tagged me for a "get to know you" meme... and Robj98168 nominated me for a Arte y Pico Award... thanks all for thinking of me! I do appreciate it. Even if it takes me a week or two to get to it!
All About Me...
1. What did you do 10 years ago?
Hmmm... 1998. Well, I was probably on a two week canoe trip in the Canadian wilderness this exact week. Two weeks without a shower (or even soap)... 7 lakes and two rivers... 11 other high school students. This was my first time out in the wilderness in this way... I would be a senior in high school in the fall.
2. Five items on your to-do list today:

Hard question! I've been spending the last year trying to reduce all needless wants... and I must say I have succeeded quite well. I can't even think of what I would want that could cost that much! Aside from a Craftsman bungalow with original woodwork and trim and such, I don't have many wants... I think travelling would be a big one. Maybe a couple really neat houses across the country, too? And, I'd set up a foundation that gave scholarships for children to take music classes and lessons and afford instruments, and help my alma mater FINALLY build a concert hall. I'd donate a lot to dog rescues to help them afford to rehabilitate confused pups like my Molly. Oh, and I'd build a big swimming pool with a diving board and fill it with money. Yeah.
5. Places I would live:I'm a big fan of Colorado right now... not too hot or cold, not too many disasters (ignoring the tornado from a month ago). But, I might like the northwest, too...
I'm passing on the tagging... I think everyone I've seen has done it! I'm just slow. Thanks again!

- Find the Proper Brick Ties (Done- online at least)

- Freshly popped popcorn hot off the stove with lots of salt (NO butter... YUCK!)
- Chocolate Graham Crackers (preferably teddy bear or bunny shaped)
- Colorado Peaches... I can't WAIT!
- Tortilla Chips and Guacamole and Salsa... homemade, of course!
- Leftovers. LOVE leftovers!

Just a Warning...
If you decide to save money by cutting your own hair, make sure you change the hair guard on the clippers from oh-so-short 1/2 inch to cute-pixie-cut 1-1/2 inch BEFORE you start to cut your hair.
Baring that, at LEAST start at the bottom... NOT on top of your head.

You Make My Day!
I've been very busy over here at the Tiny Old House this week with the things that keep my home improving funded... so busy that I didn't see Paul at the Homeowner's Blog had mentioned us as a favorite read. Thanks Paul! It's nice to feel I'm not blathering away in cyberspace to no one.
I thought I would pass on the favor by listing a few of the blogs I read in detail. Please check these out, as well as those in my blogroll on the side of my blog.

The Garage- A Fairy Tale
Once upon a time there was a nice 1 car garage. It lived a happy existence until a young couple moved in with all of their junk. The young couple filled it to the top with old clothes, moving boxes, bikes, scrap wood, and old doors.
One day the young couple cleaned out the entire garage and had a garage sale and freecycle event. The garage sighed a big sigh of relief. There was even room to park a CAR in there now!
Unfortunately, the young couple did NOT think far enough in the future and did not take the time to build storage or organize the garage and it's remaining inhabitants. Slowly, slowly the junk returned...
One day the young couple cleaned out the entire garage and had a garage sale and freecycle event. The garage sighed a big sigh of relief. There was even room to park a CAR in there now!
Unfortunately, the young couple did NOT think far enough in the future and did not take the time to build storage or organize the garage and it's remaining inhabitants. Slowly, slowly the junk returned...
... including 900 feet of flooring, 6 doors, 5 chairs, a swamp cooler, backpacking supplies, a sheet of DRYWALL, and MORE!
The garage was sad. Nobody came to visit anymore, since they couldn't even get in the door!
Then, one day the young woman decided to install a door jamb, door, and trim. She wanted to use the new miter saw that they had gotten for Christmas, but there was nowhere to set it up and nothing to bolt it to... except the workbench at the back of the garage.
She made a valiant effort to dislodge some of the clutter...
and succeeded in finding homes for all of the garden and yard tools! She screwed some shelves up with old brackets and boards, screwed an old kitchen cabinet into the wall, and nailed rows of nails into the studs to hold shovels and rakes.
The garage breathed a small sigh of relief. At least a person could walk into it now!
Will the garage live happily ever after, or will the clutter seek vengeance upon the empty and organized space and swallow it whole? Stay tuned...
(Cost: $0 Materials: Used brackets, wood, nails, etc)

Peppermint Bark! (and yes, it's related to home improvement)
I was inspired by Aimee at Aimee's Blog to make peppermint bark. It looked like such a good (and easy) idea for coworker gifts. Her pictures make it look truly elegant and scrumptious, too.
My own made-up recipe:
2 bags (24 ounces) of Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 bars (12 ounces) of Ghirardelli white chocolate
1/2 tsp peppermint extract
18 Candy Canes
First, I smashed the candy canes with the hammer wrapped in tinfoil. The best tool for the job, I must add. I love my hammer. This was FUN! (Hint: Don't crush fingers... only candy canes)
Then, I melted the chocolate chips in the microwave on 50% heat. Start with 1:30, and then stir. If it's not melted, heat for :30 and stir again. Repeat until creamy. Add 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract.
Smear (I love that word) the chocolate all over a tinfoil lined baking sheet and chill for an hour.
Then, melt the white chocolate (same process as above). Stir in 1/4 tsp peppermint extract and the crushed candy canes and smear over the hardened dark chocolate. Chill overnight.
In the morning, use your HAMMER to break the peppermint bark into pieces.
I wrapped the peppermint bark in candy boxes and tied a pretty gift tag on for decoration:
